RE100 is the global corporate renewable energy initiative bringing together hundreds of large and ambitious businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity.
Led by Climate Group, our mission is to accelerate change towards zero carbon grids at scale. RE100 was established in partnership with CDP.
Companies in the commercial and industrial sector account for around half of the world’s end-of-use of electricity. We're switching this demand to renewable electricity.
Our global membership
Our members have operations all over the world and in a wide range of industries, from telecommunications and retail to cement and automobile manufacturing. Since RE100 was launched at Climate Week NYC 2014, the initiative has expanded across Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific. We provide companies with access to peer-learning, policy support, and local market insight, in order to reach our mission of zero carbon grids globally by 2040.
The acceleration of the global transition to renewable electricity is central to RE100’s mission. We therefore also ask RE100 members to show climate leadership and be more ambitious by bringing forward their RE100 target dates. In doing so, RE100 and its members are intensifying the corporate demand signal to policymakers for zero carbon grids.
Through our policy work, we’re supporting corporates to meet their commitments to procure 100% renewable electricity. Our members are the backbone of our policy advocacy work, they send a clear corporate demand signal to governments. By unlocking corporate renewable electricity sourcing, we’re accelerating the transition to zero carbon electricity grids.
We advocate for change with our partners and members in priority geographies – markets with little or no access to renewables. We’re advocating for change in line with our six global policy messages. Policy decisions and market design are often cited by our members as reasons why renewables are hard to procure and not as cost effective as fossil fuels in certain countries.
Our strategy and performance is overseen by the RE100 Project Board, comprising representatives from both Climate Group and CDP.
