CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Guardians will continue their series with the Baltimore Orioles today – Saturday, Aug. 2 – at Progressive Field, this time for a national audience. First pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m. on FOX.

Saturday’s game is a chance for a national audience to take in two of American League’s best teams. The Guardians lead the AL Central, and they have the highest winning percentage in all of Major League Baseball.
The Guardians bolstered their roster for the playoff stretch earlier this week by trading for outfielder Lane Thomas from the Nationals and pitcher Alex Cobb from the Giants.
On the other side of the field, the Orioles acquired pitchers Trevor Rogers (from the Marlins) and Zach Eflin (from the Rays) earlier this week at the trade deadline. They have been at or near the top of the AL East all season.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Guardians made it through Tuesday’s trade deadline with no big changes in the lineup. The same cannot be said for the starting rotation.
Outfielder Will Brennan was optioned to Class AAA Columbus to make room for outfielder Lane Thomas. The Guardians traded for Thomas on Monday, sending three prospects to the Nationals.
A couple of hours before the 6 p.m. deadline they traded for veteran right-hander Alex Cobb from San Francisco for a prospect and a player to be named. Brennan, a positive voice in the clubhouse, will be missed, but he’s still in the organization. It’s unclear what Cobb’s arrival means for the roster.
Cobb, 36, will make a rehab start for Columbus on Saturday and could be added to the big-league rotation after that. He has not pitched in the big leagues this season, while recovering from left hip surgery and a sore right shoulder. He was scheduled to rejoin the Giants’ rotation last weekend, but blisters on his pitching hand pushed his start back.
The Guardians signed Boyd, a free agent, on June 29. Boyd is recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow and has not pitched in the big leagues since last season.
When Cobb and Boyd are ready, they’ll have to replace two arms in the rotation. The most likely candidates are rookie Joey Cantillo and veteran Carlos Carrasco. But rarely do things go as expected in baseball.
