Is our Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering right for you?

Whether to enhance or advance your professional goals in industry, research, academia, government service, or other related careers, the MAE graduate program delivers advanced knowledge through a self-tailored curricula.

Choose from an extensive breadth of coursework to shift to a higher level in critical thinking, analysis, and application in diverse focus areas.

Take courses in robotics, space systems, heat transfer, energy, manufacturing, biomechanics, fluid dynamics, optimization, microsystems, nanomechanics, computational sciences, and more.

The MS Non-Thesis degree programs include 3 core courses in one of three focus areas (DSC, SMDM, TSFD), 3 major/department courses, and 4 electives. Students may enroll as full-time or part-time, on campus or distance learning (EDGE online).

How to Apply

• Under Location of Intended Program, select Main Campus– Gainesville for the on-campus program, or EDGE Distance Education for the online program.
• Under Program of Study, select Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering – Master of Science.
• Note that we no longer accept applications for the Master of Engineering program, please apply Master of Science.
• A $30.00 (non-refundable) application fee is required.
• Submit all required materials.
• Monitor your application in the App Status portal.

Application Deadlines

Fall Semester

• Priority consideration deadline: January 5
  • Applications submitted after the priority consideration deadline will be accepted and reviewed for admission.

  Spring Semester

  • Domestic applicants: November 1
  • International Applicants: September 1

  Applications for Summer Semesters are not accepted

  Applications submitted after the deadline may be considered on a case-by-case basis

  Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in engineering or a closely related STEM discipline
  • A clear “Statement of Purpose” indicating goals to be achieved in specific area(s) of study
  • A minimum of 2 letters of recommendation. Recommenders may include–but are not limited to–previous or current supervisors, research advisors, employers, faculty, administrators, or professors.
  • International applicants only: IELTS with a minimum score of 6, or TOEFL with a minimum score of 80 (internet based) or 550 (paper test), with some exemptions
  • Upper-division undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • GRE scores are not required for admission.
  • Due to our large volume of applicants, satisfaction of the minimum requirements does not guarantee review of application materials or admission to our graduate program.

  Application Status

  • Admissions decisions are rendered by the MAE Graduate Admissions Committee in conjunction with MAE faculty.
  • Admissions decisions are typically sent 60 to 90 days after the priority deadline has passed.

  • Submit all of your application materials by the priority deadline.
  • Be professional, courteous, and detailed in your communications.
  • Spend extra time preparing for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Educational Testing Services (ETS) offers paid and free materials for GRE preparation, including several free practice tests.
  • Check the Applicant Profile page. Strengthen your application by retaking the GRE if needed or incorporating stronger letters of recommendation.

  Is a thesis required?

  • Students may select thesis or non-thesis. During the final semester, students either complete a thesis or take the MS final exam.

  Is financial aid available for this program?

  • The department cannot advise or assist regarding financial aid. Some federal aid may be available. Contact the Office for Student Financial Affairs for more details.
